Audi Q7 Setting off Automatic gearbox tiptronic
Coasting mode disengages the engine from the gearbox, which means that you can save fuel by anticipating the traffic situation ahead. The vehicle coasts without the engine braking effect, with the engine ticking over at idle speed. You can use coasting mode when approaching a speed restriction in a built-up area, for instance.
Activating coasting mode
Take your foot off the accelerator.
The gear will no longer be displayed in the instrument cluster (e.g. D instead of D7).
Stopping coasting mode
Press the brake or accelerator pedal or briefly pull the paddle lever -–- Fig. .
Requirements for using coasting mode
  • Coasting mode must be activated on the infotainment system link.
  • The selector lever must be in position D or efficiency mode must be activated in drive select.
  • The road speed must be between 55 and 160 km/h.
  • The gradient must not be too steep.
WARNING
When coasting mode is activated, there is no longer an engine braking effect and the vehicle does not slow down as quickly as usual or may even pick up speed if you are driving down a slope - risk of accident! You can avoid coasting mode when the selector lever is in position D if you take your foot off the accelerator quickly.
Note
  • In some situations, it is possible to activate coasting mode manually in top gear by pulling the paddle lever -+-.
  • Coasting mode is deactivated automatically on gradients of 10 % or greater.
  • Coasting mode is not available while the cruise control system* is switched on.
  • Coasting mode is not available in selector lever position S and drive select modes offroad* and lift / offroad*.
