The night vision assist function may be impaired in the following situations:
- If visibility is impaired by snow, rain, fog or heavy road spray.
- If the night vision camera is dirty.
Please ensure that the night vision camera Fig. 158► is kept free of stickers, deposits and any other substances which could impair the function of the night vision assist. Notes on cleaning link►.
The system detects pedestrians and wild animals by sensing a difference in temperature between the person/animal and their surroundings. If the difference is too small, pedestrians and wild animals can no longer be detected. The pedestrian and wild animal highlighting feature and spotlight* function are therefore deactivated during the day or at outside temperatures at or above approx. 25 °C. When the night vision assist display is shown in the instrument cluster, the

Always direct your full attention to the road and surroundings, even when you are using the night vision assist. It is always the driver s responsibility to assess the traffic situation and take appropriate care.
- The night vision assist can only warn you when people or wild animals are within the infrared camera s range of vision. The range of vision corresponds to the image on the instrument cluster display.
- People and/or wild animals cannot be detected/highlighted by the night vision assist if
- they are not standing upright (e.g. if they are sitting or lying on the ground) and/or
- the silhouette on the display is incomplete or interrupted, e.g. because the person is partially obscured by a parked vehicle or the wild animal is partially concealed by high grass – risk of accident!
- Never attempt to avoid animals if this would put yourself or other road users at risk – this could cause an accident.
Note
- Even though the system can evaluate the shape of any object it detects, as well as the heat it is radiating, there are limits to the system performance. False warnings cannot be ruled out completely.
- For technical reasons, the display image is frozen for fractions of a second at certain intervals.
